Laboratory for Applied Biomechanics Research

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur

In the Laboratory for Applied Biomechanics Research (LABR) at IIT Kharagpur directed by Dr. Ashutosh Tiwari, we develop affordable and accessible wearable system/technologies for rehabilitation in individuals with walking disability. Our target populations are people with lower limb loss, stroke patients and people with neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease patients. We focus our treatment for walking disability at the biomechanical level. We apply principle of movement physics, biomechanical science and engineering knowledge (electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, control, computer science) to develop these systems. Through these systems, we assist/augment individuals by developing robotics devices such as prosthesis/exoskeleton, train them by developing biofeedback system and also address basic scientific queries related to human movement biomechanics.
